I am offering a terrific Catalina Pottery artware piece!
This item is a vase from their Floral Art Ware line.
Catalina Pottery is the art~ware division of Franciscan. Franciscan bought the molds and rights to Catalina Island pottery around 1937. They renamed the artware items
“Catalina Pottery”.
Shapes that had been originally produced by Catalina Island, and then made by Franciscan under the Catalina Pottery banner, retained the original island shape number, but a “C” was added to the number so as not to deceive customers in thinking these items were island pieces.
Sadly, Catalina Pottery art ware was only produced for five short years—1937 to 1942. At that time, art ware production was deemed “non-essential”, and discontinued to support the war effort of WWII. Sadly, these pieces were not made after the war ended.
Floral Art Ware was introduced in 1940, and ceased production in 1942.
This vase is shape #C-331. It is glazed in aqua satin on the outside, and plum gloss inside. The vase measures 3 5/8” high, and is nearly 4 1/8” at the widest part just below the rim. It has a backstamp that reads
“MADE IN
U.S.A.”
and an incised mark that reads
“CATALINA
C-331
POTTERY”.
Condition is pristine, nearly mint! No sign of use or wear, and no damage at all.
